The making of Balkan Wars: The game

Presentation in the City Museum of Skopje

From the 27th until the 30th of May the multimedia project ”The Making of Balkan Wars: the game” will be hosted in the premises of the City Museum of Skopje. A network of computers will allow visitors to view the multiplayer video game Balkan Mall, participate actively in it and interact with each other. Parts of the project as video works and video games will also be exhibited individually within the exhibition space.

Members of the Personal Cinema, and Zoran Petrovski ,Art Historian, will talk about the project and discuss with the public on Friday, the 26th of May 2004, at 13.00.

The exhibition is being realised with the kind support of Rene Block (Curator),LOKOMOTIVA(new initiatives in arts and culture) the Goethe Institut, PAC Multimedia performing art centre, the Swiss Cultural Programme Macedonia, the City Museum of Skopje.

Project of 50 Artists “The Making of Balkan Wars: The Came”

In the project so far are involved works of artists coming mostly from the Balkans, Europe and USA, and from Macedonia with their works participate Hristina Ivanoska, Jane Calovski, Irena Paskali, Natasha Dimitrievska and the group OPA.

Today at 20 hours at the Museum of the City of Skopje is the opening of the multinational project ”The Making of Balkan Wars: The Came”, which includes over 50 artists that work in new media with aim to express their reaction on the political, religious and social conflicts that exist in the past and today in the region of the Balkan. The project basically is directed towards the social and cultural questions on the Balkanregion, as well towards making network for collaboration between artists, curators, critics and representatives of the media’s in the Southeast Europe. All visitors till the closing of the presentation on Sunday, can be connected trough computer network and participate in the interactive video came named BalkanMall. This came is the core of this project in which the growth of the social, historical and cultural elements are presented trough imaginary Shopping Mall. It’s a poetic metaphor which contains strong ironical moments relating the popular and dominant multicultural concepts, historical contradictions and contemporary political development of the whole region. The Came contains around 20 different spaces and around 30 video projections of the participating artists in the wider project titled “The Making of Balkan Wars: The Game”…It also includes sounds, images and texts connected with the concept of the came. Independent from the computer network, in the Museum space will be exhibit the other video works or video came. The concept and the production is by the group “Personal cinema” consist mainly by Greek and American artists, musicians, programmers and producers. In the project so far are involved works of artists coming mostly from the Balkans, Europe and USA, and from Macedonia with their works participate Hristina Ivanoska, Jane Calovski, Irena Paskali, Natasha Dimitrievska and the group OPA. The Presentation of the project in Skopje enters the frames of the 2nd part of the “Balkans Trilogy”, named “In the Cities of Balkan”, project initiated by Rene Blok, director of Kunsthallle Fridericianum in Kassel, Germany. The project “The Making of Balkan Wars: The Came” in Skopje is organized by multimedia cultural center LOKOMOTIVA from Skopje and ZoranPetrovski curator in the Museum of Contemporary Art and contributor in the project “Balkans Trilogy” of Kunsthalle form Kassel. For all interested to know more about the project, tomorrow at !3 hours, the members of the “Personal Cinema” will present the project and talk about their work.

Multinational Project “The Making of Balkan Wars: The Game”

In the Museum of City of Skopje, today at 20 hours, the project :The Making of Balkan wars:The Game” will be open by the members of the group “Personal Cinema”, and tomorrow at 13 hours the members will introduce the project and talk about their work in direct contact with the audience. The project “The Making of Balkan Wars:The Game” will be exhibit in the Museum of the city of Skopje, up to Sunday 30 of May. The project is opportunity for articulation of new narration that echoes with memories and experiences of the artists, most of them with a personal confrontation, first hand, with a contradictories in the presentations of the media. The project basically is directed towards the social and cultural questions on the Balkan region, as well towards making network for collaboration between artists, curators, critics and representatives of the media’s in the Southeast Europe. It relates concrete knowledge, capability, resources and the creative experience of the participants - members of the project/team, in purpose to picture new image of the future where people of the Balkan, are more than just victims of history. It offers space for dialog based on history and personal experience, directed towards the social and cultural questions on the Balkanregion, as well towards making network for collaboration between artists, curators, critics and representatives of the media’s in the Southeast Europe. In the project so far are involved works of artists coming mostly from the Balkans, Europe and USA, and from Macedonia with their works participate Hristina Ivanoska, Jane Calovski, Irena Paskali, Natasha Dimitrievska and the group OPA. The exhibition titled “The Making of Balkan Wars: The Game” by the group Personal Cinema, it opens tonight at 20 hours in the Museum of City of Skopje. This multinational project which includes over 50 artists that work in new media with aim to express their reaction on the political, religious and social conflicts that exists in the past and today in the region of the Balkan.In the Museum space where the video works will be exhibit, the visitors can connect trough computer network and take part in the interactive video game titled “Balkan Mall” “Personal Cinema” is a group of artists, musicians, programmers and producers from Greece and America. In the project also participate Macedonian artists: Hristina Ivanoska, Jane Calovski, Irena Paskali , Natasha Dimitrievska and the group OPA. The presentation of the project in Skopje is part of the “Balkans Trilogy”, project initiated by Renee Blok, director of Kunsthallle Fridericianum in Kassel. The project runs for one year trough the exhibition “In the Cities of Balkan”, maintained in the autumn last year, and is a part of series of exhibitions, conferences and symposiums.

Contact with the audience Tomorrow at 13 hours in the Museum of city of Skopje, the members of the group PersonalCinema will present the project and talk about their work in direct contact with the audience.

The project “The making of Balkan Wars:The game” in Skopje is organized by the multimedia cultural center LOKOMOTIVA and Zoran Petrovski, curator in the Museum of Contemporary Art and collaborative in the project of Kunsthallle Fridericianum in Kassel, supported by “Proxelvetia”, German Foundation for Culture from Berlin, “Neocom” from Skopje and Museum of City of Skopje. So far the exhibition is presented in Madrid, and in the period of 2004 - 2005 will be exhibit in several European cities.
